If a person is determined to do something, then he or she can easily accomplish the same and create a niche for oneself in society –these were expressed by the chief organizer of the Guru Nanak International Education Trust –Engineer Sukhdev Singh Laaj, during a function attended by school students and other personalities gathered at a special function organized to honour the remarkable achievement of handicapped girl –Bimal Kaur who had excelled in her studies. Bimal Kaur is a student of the Bhai Baaz Singh Public School in the Tajpur area of Ludhiana and belongs to a poor Sikligar Vanjara family.
Elaborating upon the career of this brilliant child, Sukhdev Singh Laaj extolled the qualities of Bimal Kaur who is working as a trainer-teacher at the Tailoring Centre of the Bhai Baaz Singh Public School. He pointed out that though Bimal Kaur was totally illiterate; she was scouted by the principal of the school Bibi Gurjeet Kaur, who worked relentlessly for this girl. Furthermore the scholarship given by former Chief of the Army staff and presently Governor of Arunachal Pradesh J. J. Singh to Bimal Kaur, in the last 3 years enabled her to cover studies from class I to Class VIII. “Her achievement is nothing but a miracle” said Sukhdev Singh Laaj in his speech and appealed to all Panthic organisations that in order to uplift children like Bimal Kaur and empower them to face the challenges of modern times, more efforts are needed for a bright future of the community.
During the function, Engineer Sukhdev Singh, Dr. Partap Singh and the chief administrator of the Bhai Baaz Singh Public School –Engineer Bhupinder Singh, not only blessed the girl with good wishes and prayers, but also presented her with a tricycle.
Speaking to select newspersons, Bimal Kaur said that her main aim was to get a good job after completing her studies and improve the financial condition of her family. It was with this in mind that she worked hard to complete classes from I to VIII in just three years. She thanked the Bhai Baaz Singh Public School and Gen. J. J. Singh, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh whose hard work and monetary grant respectively, enabled her to become a literate person.
